Wrinkles

Skin care

A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. It forms when the skin thins and loses its elasticity. Over time, these lines, folds or creases deepen into wrinkles. Some amount of wrinkling is a result of aging and probably inevitable. The first signs of the wrinkles usually appear in the delicate tissue around the eyes-smile lines or crow’s feet.” The cheeks and lips show damage next. As we age, our skin becomes thinner and dryer, both of which contribute to the formation of wrinkles.
With aging, all skin cells begin to produce excess amounts of free radicals-unstable atoms and molecules that are normally removed by naturally occurring antioxidants within the skin cells. In aging skin cells, antioxidants are in short supply. The free radicals generated are left unchecked to cause damage to cell membranes, protein, and DNA.These free radicals eventually break down collagen, a protein substance in connective tissue, and release chemicals that cause skin inflammation. It is a combination of these cellular and molecular events that leads to skin aging and the formation of wrinkles.

There's not a magic age (like 40) when everyone suddenly gets wrinkles. Some people in their 20s have little wrinkles around their eyes (called "crow's feet") from squinting or spending too much time in the sun. Other people may be in their 50s or 60s before you can even see a wrinkle. This is usually because they have taken good care of their skin over the years and may have more sebum (skin's natural oil).

They may also have "good genes" - which means their family members don't have many wrinkles. Eventually, however, everyone will have at least a few wrinkles. It's a natural part of the aging process. A new study has confirmed that women wrinkle more easily than men.

Dramatic improvements in laser technology and injectable fillers have helped tens of millions of Americans look and feel more beautiful. A plethora of FDA-approved devices have shown great improvement in reducing wrinkles in the epidermis and collagen building in the dermis layer of the skin. Injectable skin and wrinkle fillers are used to increase tissue volume, reduce wrinkles, and improve skin’s overall contour some of them are: Cosmoderm™ and Cosmoplast™ are the first FDA-approved human collagen skin fillers, Artecoll®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, Captique™,Collagen, Fascian™are commonly used.

CAUSES AND FACTORS RESULTING IN EARLY WRINKLES
The most important factor of all is sun exposure, which not only dries out the skin but also leads to the generation of free radicals that can damage skin cells. The sun is your skin’s worst enemy. It is estimated that 90 percent of what we think of as signs of age are actually signs of overexposure to sunlight. Approximately 70 percent of the sun damage is incurred during such everyday activities as driving and walking to and from your car. The ultraviolet-A (UVA) rays that do this damage are present all day long and in all seasons. These rays erode the elastic tissues in the skin, causing wrinkling. It is most important to protect the skin from the sun life-long using sunscreens on exposed areas daily.
The reasons for appearance of early wrinkles could be stress, exposure of sunlight, smoking habits and unbalanced diet (lacking Vitamin E), wrong dieting practice to reduce body weight, muscle tone, exposure to environmental pollutants, Habitual facial expressions and heredity. It is found that sleeping on the side or the belly leads chances to develop wrinkles soon, if the face is in constant contact with the pillow.
