Back pain is one of the most common ailments of mankind. Nearly 80 percent of adults are affected by back pain at some point in their lives, most often in the lower back. Backache, also known as lumbago (muscle pain in lower back), is one of the most widespread ailments found in people. It can be either acute or chronic. Acute pain starts suddenly and is usually the result of misusing the body in some way. Chronic backache keeps recurring and can be brought on by almost any movement, for no particular reason. The main causes for backache are strain, strained ligaments, back-muscle injury, excess lifting of heavy objects and disc disorders. Other contributors can include improper footwear and walking habits; calcium deficiency; kidney, bladder, and prostrate problems, female pelvic disorders, pregnancy and even constipation may produce back pain. Chronic conditions that can cause back pain include arthritis, rheumatism, bone disease, and abnormal curvature of the spine.

HOME REMEDIES
Alternate sponging and application of heat to the back can give immediate relief incase of back pain.
Lemon has another useful remedy for backache. The juice of a lemon should be mixed with common salt and consumed by the person with backache. It will give relief.
Herbs like alfalfa, burdock, oat straw, slippery elm, and white willow bark can be taken in extract, capsule or tea in treatment of back ache.
Guggul is very helpful. Eat half tsp twice a day after meals with warm water.
Garlic is known to be a good remedy for backaches. Two or three flakes of garlic taken daily in the morning can give good results.
Include lot of tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, spinach, carrots, lettuce and lot of fruits in your diet.
Boil ten leaves of tulsi in a cup of water until the syrup is reduced to half a cup. Add salt to it after cooling. Take this mixture twice a day daily for severe back ache.
In the morning drink glucose or honey in warm water.
Intake of equal amounts of khas khas grass and sugar candy mixed and powdered in the dose of 6 grams twice a day with milk is a good home remedy for backache and helps inbackache pain relief.

An effective home remedy for backache would comprise of a combination of wheat, Cuscus grass and coriander. Soak 60 grams wheat in water, overnight. The next morning, add 30 grams each of Cuscus grass and coriander to it. Add 250 ml milk. Put the mixture in a pan and boil it, until only 2/3rd of the quantity is left. Drink this concoction to get relief from backache.
The use of chebulic myroblan is also beneficial in the treatment of backache. A piece of this herb should be taken after meals. This can give instant relief.
Yogic asanas that are beneficial in the backache treatment are bhujangasana, shalabhasana, halasana, uttarpadasana, and shavasana.
Massaging with turpentine oil is another effective home remedy for backache.
Sedentary life style should be avoided. If you possess an sitting job then always try to stretch you whole body at a gap to 45 to 60 minutes.
